Indirect flight muscle of Drosophila melanogaster

The indirect flight muscle (IFM) is directly located under the thorax. The IFM is a dense network of muscle filaments fully packed with mitochondria due to high energy consumption. The main constituents of the IFM sarcomers are actin and myosin, refered to as thin and thick filaments.
From a fourier filtered cross section the thick filaments and thin filaments arrangement can be seen. Every thick filament is surrounded by six thin filaments.
